How Many People Can I Bring to My Ultrasound Appointment?

If you have an ultrasound appointment coming up, it’s understandable that you may want to share the magical experience with your close family and friends. While most NHS ultrasounds limit you to one adult guest, many private clinics – including First Encounters – allow more people to join you at your appointment.

How Many Guests Do First Encounters Allow?

When you visit First Encounters for an ultrasound scan, up to four guests can accompany you in the examination room (including closely-supervised children where appropriate).

But you’re not limited to just four people. Our premises also boast a purpose-built private viewing room that can accommodate up to six additional guests (including children, who must be supervised if under the age of 16). So in total, you can have a maximum of ten guests present across the two rooms.

In the private viewing room, we are able to appropriately control what is displayed and observed on the big screen, which is important in ensuring that only appropriate, intentional images are shown in a clear, reassuring way to guests.

Should I Bring the Maximum Number of Guests to My Appointment?

While we are happy to accommodate large groups at our ultrasound clinic and understand that expectant mothers enjoy sharing these magic moments with their loved ones, we strongly encourage you to consider the purpose of your chosen scan and the nature of any guests who will be in attendance.

Ultrasounds can be a sensitive experience where there is a potential for unexpected and distressing findings. For this reason, we ask you to consider whether it is a good idea to bring large groups – particularly groups with young children – into the examination room with you, at least for your earlier scans. Once you get to your later, potentially 4D scans, you are welcome to bring as many guests as we can fit!

Seeing your baby’s features for the first time is an unforgettable experience that we’re sure you will love sharing with your parents, in-laws, siblings, children and even friends.
