How can SneakPeek® determine my baby’s sex?

If you’re pregnant, your bloodstream contains DNA from your unborn child alongside your own DNA.

If your blood sample contains male (XY) chromosomes, this means you’re going to have a boy.

If there are no male chromosomes present in your blood sample, it means you’re having a girl.

This gender testing method is 99.9% accurate at 6 weeks gestation. First Encounters Ultrasound is an approved SneakPeek® facility.

NOTE: An early gender DNA blood test can be conducted prior to any First Encounters Ultrasound scan being performed. However, we recommend verifying the pregnancy and your gestation age (how far along you are) with our earlyAssure™ scan to make sure the SneakPeek® test isn’t performed earlier than 6 weeks.
How it works:
1. Schedule your appointment at the First Encounters Ultrasound clinic in Cardiff (how to find us).
2. When you arrive, complete your online Consent / Test Kit Activation questionnaire.
3. Have your blood taken by a SneakPeek®-appointed phlebotomist.
4. We send your blood sample to SneakPeek® Labs in California, USA.
5. SneakPeek® analyse your blood sample using a test process called non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT).
6. The results of your DNA test will be emailed directly to you within 7-10 working days.
How it works

What is NIPT?

NIPT stands for non-invasive prenatal testing. It’s a test process that’s used to analyse cell-free foetal DNA.

NIPT is the method used at SneakPeek® Labs to analyse your blood sample and determine whether you’re having a boy or a girl.

Beginning with a small blood sample, a centrifuge is used to separate plasma from the rest of the blood. The extracted cell-free foetal DNA (cffDNA) is then checked for Y chromosomes, which are only found in males.

The SneakPeek® sex DNA test is sensitive enough to find even a single Y chromosome in your blood sample, and the test is 99.9% accurate at just 6 weeks gestation. Visit sneakpeektest.com for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is the SneakPeek® test safe?
Yes, SneakPeek® is a non-invasive prenatal test that’s safe for both you and your baby.
How long will I have to wait for my results?
You should receive your results via email within 7-10 working days of your visit to the First Encounters clinic. SneakPeek® Labs typically email between 4pm and 8pm (Pacific Time) on the same day they receive the blood sample.
Are SneakPeek® results guaranteed to be accurate?
Offering 99.9% accuracy at 6 weeks gestation, SneakPeek® is the most accurate early gender test on the market. If your newborn baby’s gender does not match your test results, you will be offered a full refund.
I’ve had a boy before. Will that affect the accuracy of my results?
No, this won’t be a problem. Clinical studies show that foetal DNA clears out of the mother’s bloodstream within 2 days of birth.
I’m pregnant with twins. Can SneakPeek® confirm the sex of both babies?
If you’re having identical twins, SneakPeek® works just the same as with a single foetus. If Y chromosomes are present in your blood sample, both babies will be boys; if there are no Y chromosomes, both babies will be girls. For fraternal (non-identical) twins, the presence of male DNA means that at least one baby is a boy, but we cannot determine whether the second baby is male or female. No male DNA means you’re only having girls. (This also applies for triplets, quads, etc.)
I take anticoagulant (‘blood-thinning’) medicines. Will this affect the accuracy of my results?
No blood thinners or other drugs are known to affect the accuracy of the SneakPeek® gender check. The test only looks for the presence of Y chromosomes in your blood sample, and is highly accurate.
Can hormone disorders like PCOS affect the accuracy of SneakPeek® results?
No. SneakPeek® is a DNA-based blood test that is not affected by hormones.
Will my privacy be protected?
First Encounters Ultrasound and SneakPeek® are committed to preserving your safety and privacy. Please be assured that:
  1. SneakPeek® Labs only test for the presence of male chromosomes in your blood sample. They will not collect any data about disease states or other health information.

  2. Your DNA sample will be disposed of by a professional chemical management company (in compliance with federal standards) once it has been analysed.

  3. SneakPeek® will never share your results with anyone other than the email address you provide.
